Beta Coming Soon.


It's been almost two months since we launched our initial alpha gameplay test of You Will Not Survive. During that time, we collected some excellent feedback and data on the game. From this, we were able to hone in on major improvements and additions we wanted to work on next. We are pleased with our progress toward those objectives, and we are ramping up for another testing round.

Menus.

The largest piece of the video game puzzle we worked on this summer was our menu system.

Each has its own unique feel as you navigate the dungeons of the Forsaken Lands and select your character archetype.

*With this also comes unique character classes. Each with its own unique stats, starting weapons, and items. There may even be some unlockable familiar faces here...

NPCs.

The characters you interact with throughout your travels are as important a setpiece as any other. In The Forsaken Lands, these Beasts, Great Ones, and Oddities are the lifeblood of environmental story-telling. We focused on our first four NPCs to bring to the beta:

  • The Glutton
  • The Moth
  • Serpent's Idol
  • Idol of Agora

These four are the starting point of the plethora of NPCs you'll see, speak with, trade, and fight on your journey. Each has its unique tale to tell, along with the possibility to increase (or lose) your powers if you wish. We've also built a dialogue tree system for a variety of unique interactions. In the future, we intend to add more NPCs like:

  • The Crow
  • Mozre Dee
  • Banshee of the Swamp
  • Sibor

Dungeons.

Our initial testing included only one room for Pilgrims to experience combat; this all changes with the upcoming update.


Each enemy, boss, and NPC encounter will occur in new varied rooms, each with obstacles to overcome. Rooms will be handmade and have detailed timed enemy spawns to add challenge to each encounter. Rushing into the center of a large room may seem the best option initially but be wary of late-spawning Skeletons and other fiends that could quickly surround you...

In the future, we want to look at taking our handmade encounters and procedurally generating the dungeons before you so that no challenge is ever the same.

Controller Support.

The final big piece we'll add to this update is Gamepad support. You Will Not Survive is a Twin-Stick Shooter at heart, and we always planned for a controller to be the primary means of communicating with the game.

QoL Updates

  1. Wave spawn starts 1 second after wave start animation ENDS
  2. Decrease the size of the Alignment device in the middle of the screen
  3. Add more iframes to the dash and decrease the cooldown
  4. Add Auto-Attack and Auto-Aiming to the menu settings.
  5. The player hit is more noticeable.
  6. Larger dmg number size for higher dmg
  7. Decreased player hitbox
  8. Talk/Action Prompt change
  9. Weapon slots added to upgrades
  10. Allow upgrade selection w/o animation playing out
  11. Noxium Death Bull Sprite update
  12. Void Drinker Sprite update

Beta

We hope to bring this new build to life and have a new playtest within a month. With the feedback from this Beta, we plan to work it all into our Steamfest Demo in October.
